Gota Fria, Costa Blanca
Preparing for the Gota Fria – 12th October 2010
The Costa Blanca occasionally suffers from torrential rain in October, this weather system is named the Gota Fria, translated to Cold Drop, and can bring terrific storms and flooding to the area.
Since the major floods affecting the area in October 2007 the province is preparing for the worst, storm drains and dry river beds are cleared to ensure water failing from the mountains does not flood river banks and cause the sort of damage that was seen in 2007, where bridges were destroyed, boats and many cars damaged.
Residents of the Costa Blanca are preparing themselves as rain is forecast for this week, but so far only a few showers have hit the region and it looks like we may escape from any major downpours this year.
Today the 12th October is a National Holiday (Spain Day) and with rain forecast could put a dampener on the festivities, but currently in Javea the skies are clear, so we may still get to enjoy the fiesta!
